CCW is good for beginners and is what is used for a budget PLC. Codesys is the basis of a ton of platforms, so it's useful to play around with, but won't hold a candle to AS or TwinCAT. If you are anti-B&R and pro-Beckhoff, then TwinCAT is for you it is equivalent but it is less user friendly. I'm biased, but think Automation Studio is by far the best in terms of capability vs ease of use and the included Coffee Machine demo program does a good job showing off the basics of a lot of different concepts. I've used all of these software packages and all have a use.
